Orlando Local Guide is a non-partisan website that doesn’t typically endorse candidates of either party but today we announce our first ever endorsement for Republican Marco Peña for the Florida House of Representatives in District 49.

We have known Peña for several years now, first as a student and a two-term Student Body President at UCF and then as an active UCF Alumni and can state with confidence that Peña is the right man for the job.
University of Central Florida and District 49
District 49 is located in East Orlando and includes the area of the University of Central Florida. The University of Central Florida is a vital institution to the city of Orlando that we cover frequently on Orlando Local Guide. UCF was the catalyst and foundation of the medical city growing in Lake Nona that began with the UCF Medical School. Many alumni that have graduated from the Computer Science and Engineering schools have gone on to work for NASA and many of the defense and simulation companies working in Research Park. Many of the local politicians and executives at the Orlando theme parks have graduated from UCF. The school puts on many activities throughout the year including UCF Football Games, Light Up UCF, and concerts at the UCF arena that has made the school the town center for east Orlando.
Orlando Local Guide Endorsement
It is this reason that we need Marco Peña elected to the Florida House of Representatives in District 49. We know the love that Peña has for UCF and for the Orlando community as a whole that he serves. With many cuts coming to the higher-education institutions in the State of Florida, we need Peña in Tallahassee fighting for UCF and all that it brings to Orlando.
Peña also has the health-care experience and knowledge that will be important as President Obama’s health care programs are implemented in the state of Florida with his experience working at Florida Hospital.
