So the running joke when I attended the University of Central Florida in the late 1990’s was that UCF stood for both “Under Construction Forever” or “U Can’t Finish”.
Under Construction Forever
The first slight of “Under Construction Forever” was because the university would start construction on three new buildings for every one building they completed. The result has been a dramatic rise of the student body from 23,531 students enrolled in the 1994 academic year to 59,770 students in the 2014 academic year.
U Can’t Finish
The second slight that the 5 Miler and 2 Mile race takes a jab at came about because many of the students at the time in the 1990’s stated that they were unable to complete their core classes to graduate because they would quickly fill up and there were no other available time slots. Thankfully, that is no longer an issue with a bulk of the University expansion completed for the degree’s that are currently available and you can now finish and get your degree at UCF on time (thank you President Hitt!).
On October 18th, 2015, UCF will celebrate the fact that you can now finish college at the University with a 5 Mile and 2 Mile race called the U Can Finish 5-Miler and 2-Mile race.
U Can Finish 5 Miler and 2 Mile Race
Knightro cheers on the racing participants as the University of Central Florida hosts their premier racing event that is also a part of the official Track Shack Running Series. The 2-Mile race begins at 7:30 AM and the 5-Mile race begins 30 minutes later at 8 AM. If you are feeling ambitious, you can run in both races for the Distance Dare. Both the 5-mile and 2-mile races have you zig-zagging all over campus within the unique setup of concentric circles that has a similar setup to the original plans that Walt Disney had for Epcot.
