2013 Watermelon 4th of July 5k at Mead Garden in Winter Park on July 4th

Track Shack, one of the largest race and retail running operations in Central Florida, is hosting the 22nd Annual Watermelon 5k. The patriotic event is held each year early on the morning of July 4th, 2013 at Mead Gardens in Winter Park.

The 3.12 mile run starts at 7:30 a.m., but runners are advised to arrive 45 – 60 minutes before race time to retrieve a running bib.  After completing the course, atheletes can compete in the 8:30 a.m. watermelon eating contest, judged by the 2012 Florida Watermelon Queen.

Little ones can then join the fun in 100 – 400 yard races (distance is determined by age). The race is free but children must register on the event day to participate.  The first 150 registered participants will receive a T-shirt.

Entry fees for the 2012 race were $24 through June 23rd, $28 from June 24th through July 3rd, or $35 on race day (cash or check only). All runners receive a T-shirt, post race refreshments and of course a watermelon snack.  To commenerate the anniversary of the event, the first 3,000 runners to cross the finish line receive a Watermelon 5k gift.

Individuals that are 17 or under, 65 and older, or have military identification (active or Veteran) can run in the race for $17.
