2013 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Orlando at UCF on October 6th

In 1982, Susan G. Komen started Susan G. Komen for the cure (Komen), a nationwide organization that focuses on breast cancer awareness and investment after losing her sister to breast cancer. Since its inception, Komen has invested over $1.5 billion for research, education and health services, making it the largest breast cancer charity in the world.

Race for the Cure

To help mobilize the effort of breast cancer awareness and to help with pledges and donations, the organization hosts 5k’s all across the country and is one of the signature racing events in Orlando. The central florida affiliate of Susan G. Komen organizes the 5k each year that is held in the fall. The 2012 event is being held on the campus of the University of Central Florida at the Bright House Networks Stadium on Sunday, October 6, 2013. The race start time for previous events have been at 7:30 am. From the affiliate website, it shows the 2013 registration fees as followed:

There are also ways outside of the race to get involved and donate. The race course loops around the UCF Knight Plaza, down Greek Row, and into the center of campus around the reflection pond and back to the stadium. Vendors line the common areas of Bright House Networks Stadium with freebee’s to be handed out.
