2026 Memorial Day in Orlando: Sanford Remembrance Ceremony, Epcot & More

Sanford Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony in Orlando

Memorial Day is the day of the year when Americans pay their respects to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice — giving their lives to protect the rights and liberties so many of us take for granted. You only need to glance at the news on any given day to appreciate just how rare those freedoms are. First created to honor Union and Confederate soldiers who lost their lives in the Civil War, Memorial Day is now recognized as an official national holiday honoring service members who have died in all American wars.

Sanford Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony

The best way to honor Memorial Day in the Orlando area is at the 2026 Sanford Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Park on the shores of Lake Monroe in historic downtown Sanford (110 W Seminole Blvd, Sanford, FL 32771).

The event is organized by Casselberry Veterans, Inc. and hosted by Master of Ceremonies Joey Cote, Seminole County Veterans Service Officer.

  • 9:00 AM — Heroes’ Avenue: Veterans and first responders display restored military vehicles, fire trucks, and law enforcement equipment. A historian will discuss “America’s 250th Birthday,” and the Sallie Harrison chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will present their community service history.
  • 10:00 AM — Formal Ceremony: Patriotic music and formal proceedings honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Guest speaker is Captain Dan Sinclair, U.S. Army Veteran — a West Point graduate and decorated officer who holds the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal, and currently serves with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.

Local Tip: Veterans Memorial Park sits right on the Lake Monroe waterfront and connects to Sanford’s Riverwalk. Arrive a few minutes early to walk the memorial grounds before the ceremony begins — the monument wall and memorial bricks make for a powerful and quiet moment before the event kicks off.

The American Adventure at Epcot

Another meaningful way to mark the holiday is a visit to the American Adventure audio-animatronic show at Epcot in Disney World. The show tells the American story across centuries, including a deeply moving moment when a family is torn apart by the Civil War. It’s one of the most thoughtful attractions in all of Walt Disney World.

While you’re at the American Adventure pavilion, look for two bonus experiences:

  • Voices of Liberty: This world-class a cappella group performs throughout the day in the pavilion rotunda, singing classic American songs. On Memorial Day, they perform special Echo Sets — singers spread across both floors of the rotunda to create a soaring, full-surround sound experience. It’s one of the most goosebump-worthy free performances in Orlando.
  • Portraits of Courage: A permanent exhibit by former President George W. Bush featuring more than 60 oil portraits of post-9/11 service members and veterans. A powerful companion to the main attraction.

Memorial Day weekend in Orlando

Memorial Day weekend coincides with two of Orlando’s signature annual events that are still running during the holiday:

  • Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival: Running through June 1, 2026, the festival fills World Showcase with elaborate topiaries, outdoor kitchens, and the Garden Rocks concert series. Combine it with your American Adventure visit for a full day at Epcot.
  • Orlando Fringe Festival: May 25, 2026 is the final day of the 35th Annual Orlando Fringe Festival at Loch Haven Park. Over 1,000 performances across nine venues — a great evening option after the Sanford ceremony.

Orlando Local Guide is proud of America’s service men and women and salutes our military this Memorial Day.
