In the Orlando area we have several fun things to do during the Christmas season. One of the unique experiences in the larger central Florida area that we can typically do during the month of November and December is take a visit to the beach with the weather warm enough scattered throughout the holiday. Near the space coast is the master planned community of Viera that has their annual holiday event called Light Up Viera that takes place for 35 days starting on Friday, November 21st, 2014 and continuing through the holidays.

Starting Friday, November 21, 2014, the town of Viera will kick off the Light Up Viera Winter Festival at Calvary Chapel Melbourne. An expansion of last year’s Light Up Viera Holiday Parade, the Winter Festival will be a month-long celebration featuring a Holiday Village with special themed nights, activities for both kids and adults, and, of course, the annual Holiday Parade.

“Last year, we brought the community of Brevard together for one night of holiday cheer with the first ever Light Up Viera Parade, but this year, we’re really lighting up the town with a month of festivity,” said Lauri Duda, vice president of marketing for The Viera Company. “This is the largest Holiday Festival in Brevard County, giving people of all ages something to enjoy throughout the season.”

The Holiday Village will officially open on November 21st, with special performances by the Viera High School Theatre Arts department and the Brevard Orchestra Brass Quintet. Other highlights include Skate with the Solar Bears Night, Frozen Night and visits with Santa in his SandArt Workshop, among other themed events. In addition to live entertainment each weekend, the Holiday Village will feature:

  • 40’ x 100’ synthetic ice skating rink
  • 30-foot tall Bouncy the Snowman bounce-house
  • 31-foot tall and 90-foot long Snowzilla Jr. Slide
  • 15-foot Snow Globe photo experience
  • Holiday sand sculpture, featuring visits with Santa
  • Weekend Arts and Craft vendors
  • Food vendors

After opening week, the Holiday Parade will bring the streets of Viera alive on November 29th, 2014 at 6 pm. The parade will start at the corner of Breslay Drive and Judge Fran Jamieson Way, spreading holiday cheer as it travels three and a half miles, ending at the holiday village.

“The Holiday Parade is the only one of its kind in the area,” said Joane Dowd, president of BOF, Inc., the company contracted by The Viera Company to produce signature community events. “With 24 professional floats, musical performances and 3-D light enhancing glasses, this is sure to be the season’s main event!” Spectators can pick up their complimentary parade glasses at the Viera Discovery Center, conveniently located off I-95, Exit 191, while supplies last.

General admittance to the Holiday Village is free, allowing guests to enjoy live entertainment, including movie nights, visits from popular characters, and musical performances, at no cost. To take part in the Holiday Village’s special attractions, like the bounce house and ice skating rink, guests can purchase a one day weekday or weekend pass, starting at $15.
