There are a pair of 5k races being held at Fort Mellon Park along Lake Monroe in Downtown Sanford along the Riverwalk in October 2012 with the 1st annual Sanford Riverwalk 5k taking place on Saturday, October 6th, 2012 at 7:30am and the Dash for Dogs 5k and 1 Mile Doggie Dash (see picture) taking place on Saturday, October 27th, 2012 at 7:30am.
Sanford Riverwalk 5k
The Sanford Riverwalk is a great location for a 5k race fronting Lake Monroe in the city of Sanford. The Sanford Riverwalk 5k benefits the Crooms Academy athletic programs and scholarships.
The schedule of events for the Sanford Riverwalk 5k are:
• 6:00 am – Race Day Registration
• 7:30 am – 5K Run/Walk
• 8:30 am – Kid Dash (100 yards)
Free to all kids (under 12)!
• 8:45 am – Awards Ceremony

Dash for Dogs 5k and 1 Mile Doggie Dash
Just in time for Halloween, the annual Dash for Dogs 5k and 1 mile doggie dash is one of the few races around Orlando throughout the year where you are encouraged to bring your dog along to the race. With the event being held on the Saturday prior to Halloween on October 27th, 2012 at 7:30am, many participants will be bringing their pets dressed up in their Halloween costumes.
Whereas the first race mentioned above has you running along the Riverwalk, the Dash for Dogs is a 5k race that has you running around historic downtown Sanford. In addition to the 5k race at Lake Monroe, there is an additional 1 mile race where your dog runs in the race with you. The Dash for Dog event benefits the respected Pet Rescue by Judy. Immediately following the race will be Judy’s Halloween Pet Festival from 9am-12pm.
Judy’s Halloween Pet Festival
Judy’s Halloween Pet Festival is held in Sanford’s Fort Mellon Park and will include:
- Halloween Costume Contests with prizes (pets and their people).
- Raffles
- Entertainment
- Vendors Fair
- Food Trucks

6:30 am – Late registration and packet pick up
7:00 am – All 5K runners must be at the park
7:30 am – Start of the 5K Run
8:30 am – Start of the 1 mile Doggie Dash
9:00 am thru 12:00 pm – Award ceremonies, costume contest and Judy’s Halloween Pet Festival
