Track Shack, one of the largest race and retail running operations in Central Florida, is hosting the 2019 Watermelon 5k. The patriotic event is held each year early on the morning of July 4th on Park Avenue in Winter Park.
Watermelon 5k on Park Avenue
The 3.12 mile run starts at 7:30 am, but runners are advised to arrive 45 – 60 minutes before race time to retrieve a running bib. After completing the course, athletes can compete in the 8:30 am watermelon eating contest. Florida Watermelon Queens will be coming to the Watermelon 5k for meet and greet opportunities and to preside over the Watermelon Eating Contest.
Little ones can then join the fun in 100 – 400 yard races (distance is determined by age) at 8:45 am. The race is free but children must register on the event day to participate. The first 150 registered participants will receive a T-shirt.
All runners receive a T-shirt, post race refreshments and a watermelon snack. Stick around for all of the 4th of July activities on Park Avenue that you can read about here.
